Reading Comprehension
Reading comprehension is a life skill. After 3rd grade, reading becomes the primary means of instructional delivery. As material becomes more complex, students with weak reading skills fall behind, become frustrated, and often avoid reading altogether. To comprehend reading, students must be able to glean context and meaning and connect the new information to prior knowledge. Typically, difficulties arise from limited decoding skills, vocabulary, and general knowledge. The Reading Comprehension course is designed to teach students to deconstruct new words for meaning, expand vocabulary and general knowledge, and utilize strategies that deepen the processing of new information to improve retention, recall, and connection between ideas.
